White Water Rafting 2017

What a fantastic weekend!

Our 2017 White Water Rafting Challenge would not have been possible without our very many partners. We would like to appreciate everyone who made it possible.  It is always special to spend a weekend, facing the Tana River rapids at Savage Wilderness Camp, our partners for the 4th year and in such good company.

A very special thank you to our 2017 sponsors: Savage Wilderness Camp, Sarova Hotels, Resorts, and Game Lodges,  Great Rift Valley Lodge and Golf Resort (GRVL), Simba Corp Ltd, PwC and  RSM Eastern Africa.

This year we registered 39 teams, some of whom have rafted with us for the last four years.

A total of 500 spectators gathered to be part of our annual fundraising event and although we are still receiving funds from individual fundraisers, we estimate about Kshs 4 million has been raised for cancer. Thank you so much for your support.

Congratulations to our overall winners Kenya Revenue Authority ( KRA) - team Pili Pili and our overall runners up, team Oar and Under who came together in the last month to clinch the title.

Our highest fundraiser was GIO GIO who raised Kshs 720,000 for Faraja.

Below is a breakdown of winners from individual racing days:

Friday 19th May winner- 98 Rafter (East Africa Re)
Friday runners up - Faraja Volunteers

Saturday 20th May morning winner - KRA team Pili Pili
Saturday morning runner’s up - Lancet TIBIM

Saturday 20th May afternoon winner - PwC team ScramJets
Saturday afternoon runners up - KRA team 2

Sunday 21st May winner - Oar and Under
Sunday runners up - Simba Corp

Thank you to all rafters who took the time to be part of our annual fundraiser. A special thank you to the teams that raised funds over and above the registration fee.  We introduced an additional prize this year for teams that had innovative ideas for raising funds. This went to PwC.  They managed to register 3 additional teams by raising money through great ideas that were also great for team building in the office!  The extra funds raised really make an impact on the work that we do and aid us to continue providing more free services to cancer patients and their caregivers. This year we started our fourth support group: Multiple Myeloma and Lymphoma which meets every other month. Fundraising and proceeds from our rafting challenge ensure that we can continue to expand our services even to our soon to be opened outreach center in Eldoret at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.

We would also like to thank our hospitality sponsors who donated vouchers for our winning teams: Sarova Hotels and Game Resorts, GRVL, Southern Sun, The Tribe Hotel, The Hilton Nairobi, Purdy Arms Karen, Jacaranda Hotels, Metropolis Lounge - Kileleshwa and Serena Hotels.

2018 DATES: MAY 11th -13th

Pictures can be found here,  however, teams that would like to publish their pictures in a high-quality photo book can send Cindy an email on cindy@farajacancersupport.org. Once again, thank you to everyone who took part. On behalf of Faraja trustees, staff members, volunteers and the patients we support, thank you for joining our family and we look forward to seeing you again next year!

White Water Rafting 2016

Faraja Cancer Support Trust would personally like to thank all our 2016 Rafters for jumping onboard and becoming a part of the Faraja rafting family.  It is always special to spend a weekend, facing the Tana River rapids in such good company.

In total 35 rafting teams took part in our 2016 Challenge and 200 spectators came to watch – and raised Ksh 3.3 million (net).

As Faraja relies entirely on the generosity of individuals and companies the Kshs 3.3 million raised is incredibly important and will support and save many lives.

For example, Philip, Faraja’s patient support manager and our Founding Trustee, Shaira Adamali went to  Eldoret during the month of May for a site visit for our w new out-reach center at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital. Whilst in Eldoret they met at least 25 kids with Wilms tumor, a type of kidney cancer that only affects children. In developed countries, most kids survive and go on to live normal healthy lives due to the highly treatable nature of the disease – but in Kenya, the survival rates are much lower due to lack of funds and treatment.

Although we are already supporting many children already ( see our work with children) by having a physical presence we will be even more effective and reach many more adults and children. The money raised from this event would enable us to run a project like Eldoret for 12 months.

None of this would have been possible without everyone being involved so thank you to everybody for taking part.  It is, however, time to congratulate and officially announce our trophy winners;

Congratulations to our overall winner – Knight Frank ( Team Chopsticks)

Well done to our individual session winners – PwC, Rift Valley Adventures, Knight Frank ( Team Noodles ) and KRA      Conquerors

For the second year in a row the highest fundraising team with Kshs 590,000  over and above the registration fee –     GIOGIO

A big thank-you to the event sponsors– Simba Corp Foundation (Gold), Savage Wilderness (logistics) and RSM-Ashvir (Silver) , Sarova Hotels (for Highest Fundraiser Prizes), Sun Africa Hotels ( for silent auction prizes) , Great Rift Valley Lodge, The Tribe Hotel, The Hilton Hotel, Kempinski, Fairview Hotels and ICEA LION.

The Eldoret project is a ground-breaking new initiative.  If your company is looking for a high impact CSR cancer project to become involved with please contact our Fundraising Manager,  CindyOgana today to discuss partnership opportunities.

We look forward to having you onboard in 2017!
